History
With a mix of Portuguese and English cultural heritage. How we use clay and ceramics in our daily lives has always been a real curiosity to me. I guess you could say it is part of my culture and DNA.
Like many others artists I followed the traditional route of an arts education; A' levels then an Art Foundation, which was one of the most liberating courses in my whole education. This gave me a clear route to the next step.
Graduating back in 1999 with a BA (Hons) in Ceramics from the University of Westminster, Harrow, one of the leading ceramic courses of its time, this was the perfect grounding of how to work with clay successfully. Then in 2009, I went onto achieve a Masters in Creative Entrepreneurship at the University of East Anglia, with a grade of Distinction.
I have always believed in the cross-pollination of creative skills, and my career has taken an interesting journey with this in mind, leading to local and international projects.
I have worked extensively in Asia, most notably as an Artist in Residence for the Penghu Islands, Marine National Park and as a Trade and Industry Arts Ambassador in Japan.
About
My relationship with clay and nature has always been at the core of my inspiration and has grown over the years, from studying the geological qualities - the erosion of the cliffs, to the colours in our landscape. The clay helps to echo the textures and surfaces that we all see within our natural environment. Each object I have created is a small reminder of nature, something that we can take back into our own homes. Everything is handmade, unique and hand-built using three types of high firing clays; porcelain, black stoneware, and white stoneware.
I am based in the beautiful and historic City of Norwich, England. As an award-winning artist, my artworks are nationally and internationally purchased. Over the years I have worked with a range of clients including; hotels, interior design agencies, governments, private clients, lifestyle magazines and galleries.
